”Happy birthday, Haymitch!”
This is how you write a dystopian!
Sunrise on the Reaping felt like a mix between the Hunger Games and the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and it bridged the time gap between those book perfectly, and it’s just the perfect dystopian which both highlights the social commentary of the Hunger Games but also expands this dystopia with new perspectives and critiques that reflect our society.
”Another sunrise on the reaping”
The newcomers😢, the last few lines💔 and the epilogue🥹

The only thing I didn’t really connect with was the importance of Lenore Dove… I like her but to me Lenore Dove just felt like a reincarnation of Lucy Gray so that there would be a connection to the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. There’s more tell than show with Lenore Dove than with other characters and throughout the story we are told how important she is but as a reader she didn’t feel as important as the rest of the character whom we get to know and grow to care about. Even the reappearing characters whom we already know and love are shown in a different perspective and have relevant and meaningful story arcs, which expands their characters instead of just reappearing because they’re familiar.
