The White Castle by Orhan Pamuk
4.0

Pamuk manages to transport you back in history, in XVIIth century Turkey with such a skill that you are scared he is re-writing the path of your imagination, and his characters are at once dream-like and as real as your best friends. Beware though, do not look in the mirror as you read this, lest you might feel some sort of heart-wrenching, mind-disturbing identity confusion.
