I had been itching to read a cowboy romance and getting approval for this ARC came at the perfect timing. I am no stranger to Wardell to work and when this was announced, I knew it was going to be delicious. And delicious it was in many ways!
“Now finish up so we can have dessert. Oh wait, you don't like sweets."
"I mean depends on what it is. And my mood."
The arrival of Wylie turned Boonie's life into a slight tailspin. Sure he had relationships with different men that came and went but there was something about Wylie that wasn't like the others. And the same went for Wylie. He has spent the last few years running from home and traveling from town to town working on different ranches but this place was special. The flirty banter & the intimate moments were *chef's kiss*. Wardell has this special way of how he frames the intimate moments and not only that but showing us on page the vulnerable conversations between the characters.
As much as the book focus on our starring couple Boone & Wylie. We also got to see the familiar bond between all the siblings. They truly just love and respect each other. They built this community where all are welcome and I know that was a big factor in Wylie decision to work on the ranch.
"Boone, I want you to be my buckaroo. My cookie. My guy. This is all I want."
Reading this book made me hungry! The way that Wardell describe the food that Boone would make for those on the ranch just sounded so good! I feel like I need the recipe for the vanilla cake because if a horse loved it, then I know I would love it.
I thought the length and pacing of the book was perfect! Could I have used a full length novel? Sure but I felt that Wardell was able to develop the characters in under 300 pages.
This book is one of four novellas (that we know of). And what is unique with this series is that 2 other authors are taking on the other novellas. The next book comes out in 2 weeks on July 15th.
