Leaf by Niggle by J.R.R. Tolkien

5.0

4-1/2 stars rounded up. The first time I read this when I was in high school, almost fifty years ago. It's a charming story that I think ranks up there with Andy Weir's The Egg and E M Forster's Celestial Omnibus. Tolkien's "hero" is a cranky, impatient little man who really doesn't want to do the right things but does them anyway - with much grumbling - which I find delightful and rather true to life.
