Demon Copperhead is without a doubt one of the most comprehensively researched and eloquently executed stories I have ever read. Demon Copperhead is a coming of age story set in Southern Appalachia that follows our protagonist from his birth in a trailer home to early adulthood, highlighting a variety of challenging and relatable experiences that he undergoes along the way.

What was so impressive to me about this story were the layers of meaning that were present in every single line of the book due to the voice and experiences of Demon being a direct reflection of his environment. The choices and decisions that Demon makes along his journey are so tightly related to his experiences and trauma that reading the book made me feel encompassed in Demon’s pain. It was a transformative experience for me personally.

Demon’s experiences felt so precisely in line with how we all walk through life today; in spite of the wealth of distractions and chaos all around us, we all walk through life laser-focused on our own experiences and ultimately seeking love and belonging above all else.
