This book was a masterpiece. Yes, it was hard to follow at some points, but this book is still stuck in my head months after reading it. You could almost look at this as a scientific article on the purpose, function, and theory of consciousness, presented as a science fiction narrative. I loved the contemplation on what we consider psychological disorders today, and exploring them as desirable (or not) augmentations, as an evolution of the human experience. Then placing that in the context of an exploration of the purpose (or perhaps flaw of) human consciousness in evolution. Exhilarating, thought provoking, and horrifying. I’m going to be thinking about this one for a while. I’m excited to read the next one.
