I liked this book. It was a good introduction to the world that Millennium’s Rule is set in. However, for me, it wasn’t great. I didn’t love it like I’d hoped to. If I didn’t know this was the first book in a 4-book series, I may have given up on it half way through. Not much happened, which could very easily lead to boredom for most readers when it’s a novel over 500 pages long. I didn’t find myself bored exactly, but slightly disappointed at the fact that not much happened. The synopsis promised a fantasy book and while it picked up a bit towards the end, there just wasn’t as much magic and ‘fantasy’ as I was hoping.

I liked the two main characters – Tyen and Rielle - a lot. I feel invested in their stories and would like to know what will happen with them next. That, and the fact that I am curious to learn more about the world this story is set in, has me willing to continue on with this series. However, I will go into the next book with more apprehension and less excitement than I did when I began this book. This story definitely has the potential to be amazing, and this was my first book by this author so I don’t know if this is their usual style when introducing a new world and story. I would like to read on eventually. Maybe not straight away though.

It was good, intriguing, and just enough to have me wanting to read on. It just didn’t amaze me like I was hoping it would. Hopefully the remaining three books of the series will make up for it.
