My fourth read for the Trans Rights Readathon. Throughout What's the T Juno Dawson offers a humorous and extremely informative account on what life is like as a transgender and non binary person. She not only covers her own personal experiences with issues such as body dysphoria but also their transition and how much more comfortable and happier within themselves they felt afterwards which I'm sure will be so comforting to read to so many teenagers and young adults who have picked this book up as they are questioning their identity or thinking of transitioning.

A key topic of What's the T is helping people understand what it means that someone close to them identifies as transgender or non binary and how to support them through their transition. This would be useful for family members or friends of individuals who are coming to terms with their identity and wish to be supported throughout their transition, through being referred to by a different name or pronouns and by being seen as they truly are. With times especially hard as they are for the trans community currently this book would help to spread a little more joy and comfort if read and learn from by not only individuals who know and love members of the community but also by those who do not know much about the community but are willing to learn.

Juno also talks about other prominent trans people throughout history offering information about their achievements in a way that is both easy to consume and wonderful to learn about. I always enjoy learning more about the history of communities and the information that Juno offers is something that everyone should learn and should be available in classrooms being taught by educators.

Juno answers questions regarding transitioning, relationships, identity and the law in a clear and concise manner that makes this book easy to read for all ages. Sadly the issues talked about are still relevant including harmful legislation being introduced and transphobic comments being made by not only the people around us but also celebrities and politicians who lack the education or empathy to see people as they truly are. If everybody was to pick up and learn from a book such as What's the T the world would be a more well educated and kinder place. I highly recommend.
