i feel like this book might be a hit or miss and for me it was definitely a hit. i think this book was one my favourites that i’ve read this year so far. rooney has a very simple way of writing that i find very elegant; she’s able to describe very specific feelings which helped me feel so much more connected to the characters.

it was a little hard for me to get into it first cause i’m used to reading fantasy/dystopia/scifi books that are very action-packed. it was nice to read something i’m not very used to.

it was also refreshing to read a book that i didn’t feel like i had to rush through. it had that effect on me for some reason: i didn’t feel like i needed to finish it as soon as possible. i could go as slowly as i wanted and just savour it. i wasn’t reading for escapism, i was reading to enjoy it. i haven’t felt that way about a book in a very long time. i'll definitely be picking up more of rooney's books.
