three stars ∗ this was such an interesting read! this historical fiction novel focuses on the postwar world and how, despite everything, there was still jewish oppression throughout the states. this novel really dived in and explored how white americans treated those who were different and showed the class separations. that was one of the main conflicts, and i thought the author did a great job at exploring the issue! i really liked having the dual perspectives; i feel like it showed that while the world may think there is a difference between races and ethnics that we all have our similarities. eleanor was a really interesting main character, as she struggled with fitting in in both her jewish society and the outside world. the other main character, patricia, was also struggling with that same conflict whereas hers was between the life she thought she had to live and the life she wanted to live. overall, this novel was quite different from what i was expecting but i still really enjoyed reading it! ∗
