Uphill: A Memoir by Jemele Hill

I find it hard to rate or review memoirs. Something about reviewing another person’s life story is always weird to me. Nevertheless, Uphill by Jemele Hill is a fascinating look into the life of a courageous woman. Before picking up this book, I knew Hill vaguely from her Twitter controversy with Trump. I wasn’t aware of her lengthy and complex career in sports journalism. I’m grateful to have learned more about Hill beyond her spat with Trump because her story is one I am in awe of. From her tumultuous upbringing in Detroit all the way to her career at ESPN. The stories she tells that shaped her life and made her the woman she is today make for a compelling read. By the end of it, you’ll be inspired by Hill’s strength and her courage to fight for what she believes. Aside from some times where the writing feels a bit sporadic, Uphill is a wonderful read. One I highly recommend everyone pick up.
