Wow. Just... wow. This is one of the most original fantasy series I have read in a very long time. From the setting, inspired by the civilizations of the pre-Columbian Americas, to the story itself; I was mesmerized from start to finish by the worldbuilding, intrigue, and excitement that continued to build up all throughout the book.

Roanhorse will grip your shoulders and pull you into an incredible world full of diverse characters and cultures rich in history and tradition. She provided several different perspectives throughout the book (I was most invested in Xiala’s storyline), but the way they all came together towards the end was truly spectacular. Also, Roanhorse is so goddamn good at cliffhangers.

I’m so excited for the next installment of the series. I had so many questions at the end of the book, but it was clear this was deliberate in preparation for what’s to come. Truly a fantastic and refreshing approach to fantasy.
