Picking Daisies on Sundays by Liana Cincotti

4.0

i'm thinking °• 4⭐•° for this one

the amount of taylor swift references in this made me so so so giddy~
little ants, i guarantee you, this is the book to read while listening to TTPD. like it resonates so well with the songs, their vibes and their lyrics. a perfect match. and the fact that this was released before the album?? wonderful

~□ i'm starting a petition against the government of my conflicting brain to bring back this format of my reviews for books i enjoyed, ranging from average enjoyed to six-star obsessions □~

《the writing》
The overall writing style is basic, but fast-paced as well. There are some beautiful collections of quotes and, since a poetry book is mentioned in the plot, a handful of poetry-like lines. However, it didn't stick out to me. There are some grammatical and formatting errors that an editor should have corrected, but i can't blame anyone since the author is self-published. And could you even imagine that she illustrated the cover herself? It's legit so adorable.

“I tried to stop loving you, but along the way, you found your way into the sound of my laugh, the style of my writing, and the threads of my clothes”

《the story》
So this basically revolves around Dani/Daisy (daisy's her middle name) and Levi. They were best friends all throughout high school but had a fallout since Dani confessed her feelings to Levi but the feeling wasn't even mutual. Now, we're here four years later when Dani is in her final days of college, and she reunites with Levi in a bar. Surprise, surprise! And yes, then we get some drama. Fast forward to Levi telling Dani that his sister is getting married and he needs her to come as his +1, cute, right? Well, it would be, if they weren't doing it to show Levi's ex that he's moved on etc etc. The plot is fast-paced and does not stop being fast at any time. It keeps you engaged as things are always happening, and when they aren't, you still want to spend time with the characters and find out what comes next. It's one of those books that's addicting while you're reading it, but slowly fades away after you read it. The Taylor Swift references made me soooooooooo smiley and giddy and everything. However, the occurrences get quite cringe throughout the book, and the way our characters handle it doesn't seem similar to a 20-something-year-old's mindset.

“To be close to you was to be haunted by what I couldn’t have and to be reminded of how much I truly wanted you”

《the characters》
Dani has a nice personality, really. She's a great person with great friends and surroundings, but i'd say she sometimes struggles with controlling her emotions. I also think she's pretty impulsive at times, and very very clumsy. Her dressing style, though, is so freaking adorable. She's also studying as a fashion major and we get to see her making dresses, and in college during class with her friends, which is such a fun experience! Fashion and designing clothes, as well as a gala, are a big part of this.
Levi is literally the biggest gentleman i have ever read about in a book. Such a gentleman is he. Obviously, we're not in his head, so i don't know what he's really like, but from the outside, he's the most caring, loving and gentle person out there. The kind way he says things just warms my heart.

“Every poem in there is about you. Everything I wrote came back to you.”

《the romance》
There is an intermixing of childhood friends to lovers, fake dating, and sort-of second chance tropes. The author also tried weaving in some found family, but personally i don't think that worked out very well, despite the fact that i enjoyed the presence of Levi's family (and i always root for found family in everything). Levi and Dani have a nice chemistry, and you can feel their love literally radiating off of the page. I guarantee you, if the book was written in Levi's POV, all he would talk about would be Dani. So yeah. They have a cute relationship, is all. I do have to say that the author attempted at many tropes at once, which didn't blend well, especially since it's a short book. But it's alright.

“The lover and the archer, they’d call it. The girl who kept falling in love, and the boy who could receive love from whomever he aimed his heart at.”

If you couldn't find the Taylor Swift reference in that quote, i'm disappointed in you.

“I’ll buy you flowers every day for the rest of my life if it makes you this happy.”

GOODNESS, I CAN'T BELIEVE I ALMOST FORGOT TO MENTION THIS:
France. Paris. French.
It's everywhere. The French language. Moving to Paris. France itself. It's everywhere.
Listen, a thing to know about me: i love france, i love paris, i love the french language. france is my place.
So the fact that this has mentions of France everywhere just makes me feel so heart-warmed. Yeah i know i'm weird, don't tell me.
