I'm  first generation  latino american and I  absolutely loved this book! The experience Alejandra goes through is super relatable and she can be pretty funny. The huilt and expectations with being first gen were especially spot on.  The book also deals with performative cultural sensitivity basically people  who are culturally sensitive only because  it makes them feel better about themselves and they're  scared of being "canceled." They also only do it to mske themselves look better. It takes some getting used to the characters who do these things I  thought my eyes were going to get stuck behind my head from all the eyerolling I did but the author does this on purpose to make a statement so it's  just something you have to deal with and get used to. The book also mentions identity complex of white passing poc which I enjoyed since that's my experience. It also touches on death and greaving. I also appreciate  that the romance in here is not the main focus which is typically what ruins a YA book for me. I definitely  had big emotions through reading this definitely  recommend for other first gen poc.
