Love, Hate & Clickbait by Liz Bowery

Wow—This book is magic. Truly excellent! A political romance with terrible people. A perfect fanfic for Veep. (Veep is a crude political satire with morally-questionable characters failing-up. The characters often have aggressive humor. It is incredibly funny. If this sounds like your thing, go watch Season 1 and come back.) This book nails the characters. After reading it, my exact words were “Holy fuck that book was good.”

Premise:. Thom (Veep’s Dan Egan) is a handsome but probably a sociopath. Immediately, we see him treating a girlfriend and loads of other people with complete disregard because they are no longer useful to him. He rude, successful, selfish, and totally okay screwing over anyone while climbing the political ladder. Clay (Veep’s Jonah Ryan), our other hero, is the worst. He’s a walking platform for failing-up. He’s annoying. He’s oblivious. He boasts about delusional achievements. Thom loathes Clay. To distract from another of her political gaffs, Gov. of California and soon-to-be presidential candidate (Veep’s Selina Meyer) bribes Thom (Dan) and Clay (Jonah) to pretend to date and lean into the photos and media. The characters grow a bit as they fall in love, but this is not a book about these horrible people becoming good people.
