The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie
5.0
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The world building is wonderful, but it was the characters that made it for me. Each one is detestable in their own right, which somehow makes them immensely lovable. There is a hideous quality to each that makes them infinitely human (despite the reader not being entirely sure that some of them are). It's the kind of book that has you investing in a group of almost villainous individuals, yet you're somehow still rooting for their success. It certainly reflects reality in some interesting ways. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series.
