The Cake Fairies
by Isabella May
Polly and Annabelle are stuck. In their little village, with their lovely little bakery, with pretty much useless families to look after, single and with no prospect of meeting the big Mr Right any time soon. It’s 1969 and unbeknown to them both, they have just about ran out of chances for happily, ever after.
But all is not lost. They meet a strange lady in a tent at local fair and well, things go a bit magic. They are transported to 2019 to be the new cake fairies and to have a go at happiness – spreading and enjoying it.
Annabelle and Polly will drive you mad. Annabelle swings between very selfish and very selfless at times and Polly just seems so stuck up and unwilling to try anything new, you want to pick her up and shake her a little. But you do get to love them eventually and root for them too.
I found myself reading this book in a funny voice in my head (like a comedian) and that confirmed to me that’s this is a funny, well written book. I could not do it out loud though so a little disappointed. The novel is refreshing, little too slow in places, but overall comes together well. It is a nice, light read that helps getting through those dark evenings with a smile.
