This was an eminently easy and enjoyable read. Like the quick fix that candy gives you - perhaps not the most robust thing to have for your health, but so, so enjoyable when you want to occasionally treat yourself.

I normally cannot stand New Adult. Writers of New Adult often make the store over-the-top angsty and melodramatic. I'm also at a point in my life where I simply don't have the patience for this kind of melodrama when grown adults have to often deal with the relationship issues brought on by these books, but also need to go to a full time job, care for children, clean the house, and a myriad of other responsibilities the come with adulting. So I'm often wanting to shake New Adult characters from frustration.

However, Kennedy does an amazing job of giving readers two lovable characters who behave realistically for their age and who also don't throw themselves on the floor over their feelings, decrying the end of the world. The growth of the hero was laudable, and just like the MCs, the secondary characters were equally lovable.

This one surprised me in a good way, and thanks to Kennedy, I'm willing to read more New Adult. I've realized that I've just simply been reading shitty New Adult or shitty writers of this sub-genre.
