With the Fire on High
by Elizabeth Acevedo
What a wonderful story of a young girl finding her path and learning who she is and what she really wants in life. Emoni is such a grown up character, yet she still has all of the young qualities a girl her age should have. I truly enjoyed following her journey through the school year. I have to admit though, that I was rather surprised by the way some of the adults in the book acted, like Tyrone's mother or 'Buela. Over all I thought this was a very well written book and it deserves the hype it has gotten so far. The writing style was very fluent and I loved that the chapters were so short, made it easier to read a chapter here and there even on busy days.
