Keep Me Close by R.M. Virtues

I enjoyed this one, but I think I made a mistake by not reading Drag Me Up first. There were definitely relationships and plot points that I didn’t fully understand lol. I’m just a sucker for bodyguard tropes (although I love a Persephone/Hades story too, so I’m sure I’ll like Drag Me Up).

Solidly steamy, and I really liked that the book included the characters discussing their needs to enjoy sexual encounters. I wasn’t 100% convinced of the daddy kink - it seemed just a little random - but I still enjoyed it. That’s a trope that can be kind of cringe in the wrong hands, but this book didn’t fall into that trap.

I think my issue with the story might’ve been fixed by me reading the first book too. I didn’t quite understand the hostility between Aphrodite and Heph at the start, but that might be a plot point from the first book. There were times they’d be yelling at each other that I thought came out of nowhere, but again that could totally be my fault. Like there was clearly backstory with Ares that I’d missed. There are a LOT of characters in this, which can get a little confusing to keep track of, but again that’s probs bc I’m a dummy who read the second book first.
