Nutshell by Ian McEwan
4.0

It's to Mr McEwan's credit that my staggering disbelief was suspended for the length of this short novel. The narrator and protagonist is a foetus in the womb of a woman plotting to murder her husband, with the aid of her lover, who is her husband's brother. The foetus is erudite and a connoisseur of wine, thanks evidently to his mother's listening to podcasts and drinking habits. Somehow Mr McEwan pulled off, as this is a gripping and enjoyable read.
