Despite the series somewhat stilted start in “Kingdom of the Wicked”, this book starts to redeem the series in terms of pace, writing, story (progressed beyond world building and character info) and pure sensual tension between Emilia and Wrath. Though I found the story to be somewhat predictable, it was still pleasantly escapist reading with good banter and a very, very slow burn 🔥 which helped keep the book going when my interest flagged.
One point that I have noticed through the first 2 books in this trilogy is the author’s obsession with food and fashion. Dishes served and how they are prepared in detail as well as the designs of what Emilia and Wrath wear are painstakingly described. Not to be too down on descriptive writing, it can sometimes help you feel you are there, but in this case, I found it a bit much in certain places.
If this series is a dance class, then the 1st book would be the equivalent to class 101 and book 2 we progress into putting the steps together. Even though, the storyline was somewhat jumbled, I am looking forward to the big finish which I hope book 3 will provide.
