Children of God by Mary Doria Russell

3.0

I definitely liked this book better than the last time I tried to read it. (I actually finished it this time!) But I guess it was too neat of an ending. I think the end of the Sparrow was an awesome end of the series. It was much more realistic.

AUDIOBOOK:
Another issue I had was the person who read the audiobook, Anna Fields. ALL her men sounded the same: like the serial killer from Silence of the Lambs, and her accents were horrendous! Also, I wanted to slap her annoying children (who also all sounded the same.) She was definitely good at reading a story, but keep her to a story with fewer characters, and less dialogue.

SPOILERS:
One of the issues I had was the alien version of the white man fixing everything. They come in, and help solve all the politics of the world. All the evil meat eaters are either killed off, or agree to stop eating Runa. PROBLEM FIXED! Liked alien culture, but it was a bit too similar to earth culture to be believable. Also, the two main Jana'ata killing each other was a bit weak and kind of a let down.

But Russell is really good at character, and that was the book's saving grace. Her interactions between the humans was the most compelling aspect of this book.

Now on to read Epitaph!
