I still wonder how much of the world has such an emotional reaction to getting their period for the first time. Media portraits everyone as freaking out-I didn't. Also I was stupidly blindsided about how much religion this book had. I should have known since God is literally in the title. I thought it might have been a good book for my son to read as he approaches puberty so that he could have the perspective of someone who's body changes differently than his will. Our community doesn't ask for people to religiously identify themselves and so much of this book operates under the assumption that a person's religion is the most important part of their identity. This book was one I was embarrassed that I hadn't read when I was a kid so glad that it's finally something I conquered but wish it had held up to my vision of what it would be.
