Pattern Recognition by William Gibson

Did not finish book. Stopped at 41%.
I saw a few other reviews talking about how dated the book is but i just found that aspect equal parts charming and confusing. We can’t expect books to age with us and it’s fun to read a time capsule of what people expected the world to be like compared to what it is now.

However it is absolutely laughable how Gibson treats women. Cayce has a problem with every woman and an obsession with every man. She “leaves (the salon) feeling lighter and less intelligent.” HELLO?!? She feels stupider for having indulged in feminine self-care? Please say psyche.

Anyways this book is not interesting enough or well-written enough for me to dedicate any more time to it and I’m tired of reading bored renditions of women. I wanted to like it because I’m a huge cyberpunk/cyberfuturism simp but it’s just slow and bland.
