It’s difficult to review Erdrich’s books with more than just: this is stunning, so instead I’ll say what distinguishes this one. I believe this has the most threads of any Erdrich novel I’ve read, and i confess that i sometimes got lost since I was “reading” the audio version. What makes it so amazing though is the way those threads are picked up and revisited and retold through other narrators who saw things differently. This is also the most devastating book of hers that I’ve read in terms of the violence that it contains. That violence is certainly balanced with regular life, but the intensity is palpable.
