This is quintessentially Ottessa Moshfegh - at her most vile.
The book contains a bunch of short stories each following a character that is unlikable, disgusting, morally flawed.
I think this is good for people that want to get a tasting Menu of Moshfegh’s work and style.
I rarely read short stories and have to say that the format might be a little bit hard for me. It’s nice to have short tidbits but it ultimately led to me putting the book down for longer stretches when a story was over.
Some stories were more memorable than others. All in all this is well done. Although I like the repulsiveness of moshfegh’s characters, some of it was a bit heavy for me for casual reading.
Nothing wowed me but most stories kept me entertained.
