Too Much Is Not Enough
by Andrew Rannells
I knew Andrew Rannells as one of the original members of the Broadway cast for The Book of Mormon and his various acting jobs such as The Boys In The Band, Girls, The Prom. His memoir TOO MUCH IS NOT ENOUGH follows his days from high school in the late 90s to his first big break in Hairspray in the early 2000s. There is no celebrity gossip or descriptions of a lavish lifestyle. This is the life of a young gay man who comes out, moves to New York City to study acting, and tries to balance work, love, and romance. The memoir is very funny and I laughed several times. The audiobook read by the author was a great experience with a lot of jokes, inflection, and emotion. At the same time Rannells is trying to get his big break, he learns what it means to be far away from his family in Omaha, what friendship really means, and who he wants to be a relationship. This isn’t a typical celebrity memoir with gossip and name-dropping. This is an earnest examination of that time in everyone’s life when you’re trying to decide who you want to become. ★★★★★ •
