Midnight in Chernobyl: The Untold Story of the World's Greatest Nuclear Disaster by Adam Higginbotham

5.0

Very thoroughly researched

The author must have put an incredible amount of research into this book not only did he provide information on the disaster itself, but the history of Soviet nuclear disasters which were largely unreported at the time, the aftermath of the incident as the USSR attempted to name a number of scapegoats and place blame for it on them despite there being many well identified faults with the Soviet reactors. He also is quite detailed with the horrific illnesses and burns suffered by the true heroes of this story, those assigned with working to prevent the disaster from becoming even worse. In the process of telling the story he also describes the families of the assorted main characters. I was very happy ☺to have read this book I just could not put it down and had it done in less than 3 weeks
