Home Sweet Home by Nicole Trope

I had a very hard time getting through this book, ngl. There's 4ish main characters with varying time lines, that bounce around. I struggled with one character in the 1st person narrative, and the other 3 are 3rd person. Between the bouncing time and different person narratives, my brain couldn't keep the who was who and when was when was straight. Head to book club with 25% of the book done. The book got spoiled for me, which was totally fine because it cleared up the issues I was struggling with. I picked up the book again and breezed through the rest of the book in less than a day. Diving back in knowing the who, when, and why made the book much easier to get through. Now 4 stars is more like 3.5: the timeline could've been better, I think the pov's should've been 1st person since each chapter is that character's pov. 2nd: The author was so dang hung up over her own character's tattoos. The tattoos basically were like a 5th unnecessary character. She doesn't even describe what the tattoos are, just that they're bad. No, ma'am, absolutely not. Oh no, his tattoos say evil and hate on his knuckles. Give me a break. I had to look at the publication date to see how old this boomer author must be to be so hung up on tattoos, as if they themselves make a person inherently bad. Honestly, almost DNF'd just for that alone. She even included an afterward about the friggin tattoos. All in all, to say the story gets much better, it even made me cry a few times. It could've been so much better, but it wasn't terrible.
