Heart Lamp: Selected Stories
by Banu Mushtaq
3.5, in my opinion. I kept thinking about the work of translation done, and I definitely understand the award and recognition. but beyond that, for me, born and raised far away from the Indian Muslin community and tradition, it was like opening a window to a new view. It is quite uncomfortable sometimes, not because it is not good, but because it gives light to women journeys as if you were able to get inside their houses, see their pain, their lack of existence. and even though I could relate to a lot of the stories, there were so many details beyond my knowledge that I had to search to understand. I would say it gives more an anthropological experience than a literary one.
