The Madman's Daughter
by Megan Shepherd
The first 40 pages or so I was really enjoying and then...mehhh. This book is described as a gothic Victorian thriller and while those elements definitely were present in the story, it just wasn't done very well.
The whole middle chunk of the book felt very dragged out and there were a lot of scenes that I thought could have been completely cut out because it added nothing to the story. There was also a love triangle, which to be honest I'm usually a sucker for, but this one was pointless and irritating.
Overall the story was interesting enough. I didn't love it, but it's also not the worst thing I've read. It also ended on a cliffhanger so I am curious as to what will happen, but I will probably just end up Wikipedia-ing it.
