The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars, Part Three by Michael Dante DiMartino

I loved Turf Wars, this book was my favorite of the Avatar comics but beyond this I think it's a great story on it's own (although I imagine you need a degree of context to enjoy this). This volume really had a lot of action and while I think the threat was basically nothing and I felt more or less none of the tension other then a meta level "The writer thinks I should be afraid of this nothing baddy" overall I just love the character interaction. The exploring of LGBT+ themes as a means of extending a piece of media previously censored or afraid of censorship in comics is great in particular as a form of teaching you where the rights and world stands on lots of things. While this book clearly doesn't really address trans issues and that is something I would really like to see the exploring of these two queer ladies was so much fun.
Tons of characters get a time to shine and even with the focus of Korra and Asami I feel like all the characters did get at least a moment to shine. I loved the political story going through and this book did such a great job at exploring themes.
It just makes it a shame that the baddy was so bad, I really hope they don't use him again in future stuff. He really is a big nothing and I never ever was convinced he could even beat Asami let alone Korra. Every time he would beat one of them I would just roll my eyes. Honestly, they could have him kill a character and I would have just been mad cuz he didn't do it cuz anything felt like it justified him being that good but just because the writers think he is cool? I would have been fine if the political conflict was everything, the baddy didn't need some spirit powers it could have as easily just been evil capitalism vs keeping somethings safe, guy hires different thugs, politics is happening, Korra is beating people easy but beating them doesn't matter it's about stopping the bigger issue she can't punch. Anyway, I hope we get more Korra comics and more that they will take the time to do more world building and exploring Korra and Asami's relationship.
