Overall the series was really good and this third book is a necessary read because it’s all one long story and the second book ends without tying up the loose ends. I enjoyed this series a lot but I liked this last book the least of the three. It was way too slow in my opinion and too many wasted pages describing stuff that was unnecessary and just there to make the book longer. Many questions are left unanswered.
Like where is Alabaster? They hinted that he was a stone eater now and still “cooking” but I would have loved a reunion of Essun and Alabaster in their new forms! I also hated how Nassun greeted her mother after all that time. Not even a hug or nice hello! I don’t care how messed up their relationship was, a child like Nassun and what she went through would seem to be much more happy to see her mother after losing so many people. It was hard to swallow and super disappointing. Also why even mention the pregnancy of Essun at the end when it really had nothing to do with the story and ended up being irrelevant.
I also thought the explanations of some of the mechanisms like the obelisk gate and obelisk network were so rushed and complicated that the author didn’t really have an understanding either. Just a bunch of technical complicated terms that you just have to skim over because it’s too convoluted to follow.  I would still recommend reading this one but it is long and drawn out. I would have loved this series so much more if it was a Duolingo and all the answers were given in the second book. I honestly think that would have been possible by cutting out a lot of the irrelevant stuff.
