Salt Slow
by Julia Armfield
This is a short story collection that I am unlikely to stop thinking about anytime soon. The stories were beautifully written, while the prose was not particularly lyrical it had the air of a fairytale throughout. I would recommend this short story collection to anyone who enjoyed Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado because while there are notable differences, such as the fact that Machado's stories have a weight behind them that cannot be removed from her identity as a queer Latinx woman, and that this collection did not quite hit me in the same way Machado's did, they are both horror-ish reflections on the reality of being a woman.
