Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

2.0

Had no idea what this would be about, but considering there is a Hollywood movie coming out this month based on the book, I thought I should finally give it a shot.

I was thoroughly disappointed, though. I am not drawn towards books that drone on and on and where nothing ever really happens, such as the case with Jane Eyre. Although other classical authors (such as Tolstoy, for example) may drone on and on about all the minute details, there is still an obvious plot. Maybe I am being unfair, but if this book were to be published in 2011, it would receive horrendous reviews. I believe it is only considered an esteemed novel because it is a classic, not because it is brilliant.

NB: I still plan on seeing the movie at some point though, just to see what direction the film editors took. I love to see classic stories played out into modern day society, such as 10 Things I Hate About You.
