This book didn't grab me, though it still held me. It's has a very interesting premise, but for a dystopian story created no great sense of tension or urgency. I also felt very limited emotional attachment to the characters. On top of this throughout the book there were chapters that were written in a different font to display that they were a story written by the main character. Though there were clear parallels between this story and the novel's main narrative, there seemed to be no clear reason as to why it was included. Also why did the old man have no name? .
Despite these factors though, I found it to be an entertaining novel with a fascinating ending. The main appeal would have to be the writing, which was gorgeous and poetic.
