Little Star
by John Ajvide Lindqvist
The best from Lindqvist since [b:Let the Right One In|943402|Let the Right One In|John Ajvide Lindqvist|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1327893384l/943402._SY75_.jpg|928338]!
This was pretty weird, even by Lindqvist standards. A man finds a baby in the woods, who doesn't cry unless it's a perfect C note. She doesn't speak, but she can harmonize with music. As she grows up, she doesn't express any emotion but only wants to continue making music and singing.
After going apes**t, and not caring at all, she goes on to live with her brother in secret and remains unknown until he has her compete on Idol under a fake name. A young, struggling, depressed as hell girl sees her performance and becomes obsessed. They end up becoming 'friends' on the search for something that makes them feel anything, usually with grisly and violent results.
I really enjoyed this one. The main singing girl, Theres, was super freaky and completely impossible to understand. The other girl, Teresa, was honestly a little bit relatable (added on to the creep factor even more). What made this one so crazy was that the ending seemed a little bit... believable?? Especially in today's climate.
A tagline of this could almost be: What happens when you push people so far that they have nothing left to lose?
