Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
4.0
I hope everyone knows this rating is based solely on entertainment value because otherwise this would be really embarrassing for me.
I read multiple reviews saying things along the lines of “who had a gun to the head of people rating this 5 stars” and so on and so forth. I’m here to say that no one had a gun to my head for me to give it 4 stars even though this book was staggeringly awful.
Was this book terrible? Yes
Did the writing make me cringe constantly? Ofc
Did most of the characters make me regret every life choice leading me to read this book? Totally
Was is highly entertaining? A resounding yes
Am I roped in and planning on buying the next book asap? Absolutely
Honestly, Violet was annoying, Xaden made me cringe, and Dain… well, let’s not talk about him. I could literally write a dissertation on how much I hated him. On the other hand, I enjoyed it and I don’t have to explain myself. The vibes were there. The spice was there. The romance was sort of there. The worldbuilding was there-ish. You get the gist. I don’t really know how to put into words why I liked this book because every bone in my body is screaming for me to hate on it but I just can’t. Where else am I going to get 20 full hours of entertainment for $15 anyways? Beggars can’t be choosers.
I only knocked off a star because of the abysmal writing and because I listened to the audiobook version (I’m busy) and it was awful. It kind of let the whole thing down. I honestly don’t think I would’ve been cringing half as much if I’d just read the physical version. It was like listening to a radio announcer read the whole thing. Let’s get some real sounding people on these jobs… especially when there’s spice involved. That was awkward.
XOXO
