This was an extraordinarily difficult read to stomach getting through and, although I'm glad I've finished it and gotten to the end, I hesitate to recommend it. I understood that the narrator was intentionally unreliable and we were meant to understand what a disgusting person he was, but it was excruciating to get through all of his ramblings and there were truly some horrifying descriptions of Lolita that almost caused me to DNF this book. I feel as well that I'm missing a lot of references and that I'm also missing out by lacking enough knowledge of French for a large portion of quotes. Overall, I did not enjoy a moment of this book, which is definitely a good thing, and I'm struggling to see any valuable experience or reflections gained as a consequence of reading it.
