Pop Manga Coloring Book: A Surreal Journey Through a Cute, Curious, Bizarre, and Beautiful World by Camilla D'Errico

4.0

Camilla d'Errico is a rock star in the pop surrealism scene. Her illustrations are whimsical and organic. Her characters are bizarrely avant-garde and beg for crazy hair colors and imaginative color combos. In the classic manga style, the characters have large soulful eyes displaying tender emotions. When you flip through this coloring book you are transcended into another world.

My artwork blends the cute, creepy, and the surreal in a whimsical way that defies any logic or physics. ~ Camilla d'Errico

She encourages the artist to go wild with their choices, think outside the box, and to color outside the lines. If you're a fan of pop surrealism, manga, or anime I highly recommend this coloring book. It's pretty standard as far as coloring books go. The book is sized 10 x 10 inches, has 80 pages, and comes with a removable dust jacket. It is glue bound and some illustrations do extend into that area. Illustrations are printed double-sided but the page quality is really nice (white 160 gsm (110#) uncoated paper).

The only issue, that should honestly be a nonissue is Ayako, d'Errico's creative companion that graces some of the pages offering advice, encouragement & commentary along the way. While you will get a sense of how important this little guy is to Camilla it does take away from the overall aesthetic at times. Pop Manga is full of portraits, patterns, and the stunning artwork fans and collectors have come to love.
