baelys 's review for:
Storm of Secrets and Sorrow
by Melissa K. Roehrich
This is book fuelled by anger. Every character, Theon, Tessa, Axel, Luka, carries their own bitterness, frustration, and desperation, and it bleeds into every page. This book is intense, politically charged, and full of high-stakes reveals that hit all at once rather than unfolding gradually.
The Selection, the politics, and the intricate world-building remain highlights of the series. However, I missed the darker dynamics of the first book, the push and pull between Theon and Tessa that made their connection so unique. Theon prioritizing her in subtle ways, or moments where her submission was tested, felt less present here, which took away some of the tension I loved in the first book.
That being said, I couldn't put this book down. The pacing, the reveals, and Axel's perspective kept me hooked. His struggle is heartbreaking and adds so much depth to the story. This sequel is chaotic, consuming, and gripping, and I'm so ready for the next book.
