I quite like Jonny's characterization, and loved all the parts of this book about his relationship with his kokum and mother. It is pretty much constantly bringing things back to sex which makes sense for this book and Jonny's story, but I just wasn't as interested in that so felt I was powering through some parts.
In spite of that the writing itself is beautiful, Joshua Whitehead weaves metaphor, allusion, and indigenous culture fluidly, and I found myself smiling and laughing often although I'd say the overall vibe of the book was more sad. Enjoyed it and will be curious to see what Whitehead does next.
