This book made me cry, this is a companion novel that offers a unique perspective by delving into the experiences of the male characters, providing insights into their motivations, struggles, and the pressures they faced as heirs. One of the most powerful aspects of the book is the way it humanizes the villain origin story. By understanding the pain and trauma that shaped the Heirs individual and group choices, it was easy to empathize with them. Each of the main boys in the Zodiac including each Heir and Orion gets a chance to share their POV in this book. The novel's structure, alternating between the POVs of the various male characters, adds a dynamic and engaging dimension to the narrative. The seamless blending of each person's chapter and the dialogue references to the Awakening ensures a coherent and immersive experience. I have read this book twice, once after book 3 and once in chronological order as book 1.5. I recommend saving it for later in your Zodiac Academy journey, particularly after reading Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac. This approach allows you to appreciate the full context of the characters' experiences and catch little details. Overall, The Awakening as Told by the Boys is a must-read for fans of the Zodiac Academy series. It offers a valuable addition to the narrative, providing insights into the characters' motivations and the complexities of their world.
