The Elite by Kiera Cass
5.0
[a:Kiera Cass|2987125|Kiera Cass|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1318605410p2/2987125.jpg] is the perfect example of a writer who listens to her readers. This book was the exact opposite of [b:The Selection|10507293|The Selection (The Selection, #1)|Kiera Cass|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1322103400s/10507293.jpg|15413183] in its writing style. Where [b:The Selection|10507293|The Selection (The Selection, #1)|Kiera Cass|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1322103400s/10507293.jpg|15413183] shows the girls as emotionless, [b:The Elite|16248068|The Elite (The Selection, #2)|Kiera Cass|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1391454595s/16248068.jpg|20397129] paints them as real people with feelings and purpose. Where [b:The Selection|10507293|The Selection (The Selection, #1)|Kiera Cass|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1322103400s/10507293.jpg|15413183] falls short on plot, [b:The Elite|16248068|The Elite (The Selection, #2)|Kiera Cass|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1391454595s/16248068.jpg|20397129] fills in every hole. Where [b:The Selection|10507293|The Selection (The Selection, #1)|Kiera Cass|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1322103400s/10507293.jpg|15413183]'s take on the history of a country and war in general seems outlandish and juvenile, [b:The Elite|16248068|The Elite (The Selection, #2)|Kiera Cass|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1391454595s/16248068.jpg|20397129] fixes the gaps and creates a story that engages the reader.
After I read [b:The Selection|10507293|The Selection (The Selection, #1)|Kiera Cass|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1322103400s/10507293.jpg|15413183], I was very averse to even looking at [b:The Elite|16248068|The Elite (The Selection, #2)|Kiera Cass|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1391454595s/16248068.jpg|20397129], but a lot of people pushed me to go through with it, saying it got a lot better and that main character America Singer actually showed a feminist side and was a really great person. I want to thank everyone who continued to encourage me to read on. If I hadn't, I would have missed America coming into her character, as well as some amazing plot twists about the royal family.
I would say, if, like me, you read [b:The Selection|10507293|The Selection (The Selection, #1)|Kiera Cass|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1322103400s/10507293.jpg|15413183] and couldn't stand the writing or the character development, and if, like me, you decided you'd never be interested in [b:The Elite|16248068|The Elite (The Selection, #2)|Kiera Cass|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1391454595s/16248068.jpg|20397129], you might want to rethink that.
