This book taught me more about HIV than volunteering at the AIDS Foundation ever did. I was constantly checking my biases. Thank you for crafting this book Camryn Garret.

I felt that all characters were shelled out so well, even though I sadly kept mistaking the main character's, Simone's, parents: Pops and Dad. I know that is solely due to the lack of books I have read in YA with the main character having LGBT+ parents.

The communication and openness between Simone and her parents were my absolute favorite and the romance was particularly cute and healthy.

Few instances irked me: a convo that put mental health in negative connotations (i.e. "thrown in a metal hospital), but I understand the context 100%. Same with some conversations centered around bisexuality and biphobia, and with struggling to maintain friendships when you're consumed by your romantic relationships. These conversations felt very true to the demographic and I can picture me being in the same conversations back when I was in high school.

One thing I couldn't connect with was Simone's sexuality. She is hypersexual and it was very off-putting how many times she thinks about sex. This is very different from me because I rarely think about sex. It made reading about a teen constantly thinking about sex leave a bad taste in my mouth because I'm an adult.

All if the things that irked me, didn't bring down my rating by much because I truly think this is a solid debut. The characters had individual personalities and motivations, the message was strong, and it taught me a lot. I enjoyed it and I hope others do too.
