OK, OK, I GET IT NOW. The first book...very meh... underwhelming. BUT THIS??? 🗣🗣IM NOT OK🗣🗣

I continued reading the series solely because I got so excited while reading book 1 on my e-reader, and I thrifted the whole series. But 70% through OUABH, I lost interest because it was so chaotic. But I heard the excellent reviews and continued reading before attempting to resell the books. And omg...I would've missed out if I hadn't.
The beginning is still not super-interesting (though it is fast-paced), but by halfway through, I could not unstick my eyes from the book; I read on the bus, on my way home, on the treadmill, on my couch...
AND THE END 🗣🗣. I already heard how gutwrenching it is, and I usually have a bad experience when someone overhypes a book before I read it, but ain't no way I was going to predict that. Ending:
I predicted that Jacks would return in time to save Evangeline, but that's it. And the way Stephanie Garber wrote "THE END" after Evangeline died...how could you do that to me?? Amazing. And Jacks wailing with tears of blood...I loved the whole scene.
. I'm still in recovery.

That being said, to like this book, you still have to be here more for whimsy vibes than plot (just like OPABH). The writing is still a little repetitive, but not as much as in book one, where we would get Evangeline's every single little thought spelled out.

Evangeline also continues to be a silly billy, but I'm here for it. This is so much better than OPABH.
A tormented scream pierced the night like a blade. The sky bled, and darkness fell instead of stars, erasing lights across the Magnificent North.
