The Gathering Storm by Brandon Sanderson, Robert Jordan

5.0

"Life was more complicated than a single cause. Life was about living. About dreaming, laughing, and dancing."

I'm so glad I decided to stick with this series and hold out for the Sanderson books. Sanderson did justice to the original plot while also bringing his own genius. This book had so much better flow than the last few. He kept the chapters shorter, which helped the pacing immensely. He also jumped POV more often to keep the story flowing well along with the main narrative, no need to go back to catch up another main character to the present moment in the plot.

The characters POVs were actually integral to the main plot, not an odd irrelevant jump in focus as before. The character communication was so much better. Conversations and relationships were more believable and way less melodrama. The female mains were also so much better to read.

The reunion between Tam and Rand was long awaited and didn't disappoint. It was heartbreaking to have the Rand we first knew be juxtaposed against the Rand of today, through the eyes of his father.

I deeply enjoyed Egwene's story, I feel like the potential for her character was finally given justice. Same for Nynaeve, she's fantastic through Sanderson's eyes. This book left me rejuvenated for the final books!
