City of Thieves
by David Benioff
It took a while to get into, but I was just so captured by the premise of two prisoners going around the country trying to find eggs that I had to stick with it. In the beginning I found myself trying to look up where a lot of the places were to get a better feel for geography, and I had to look some other info up (like Piter was Saint Petersburg). A map or something would have been handy.
The characters were definitely off color, but I did enjoy the book. The action picked up and I became more invested in the plot about halfway through, and the ending was fitting...not bad, not great, but appropriate. A good historical fiction in WWII Russia.
