The Bond That Burns by Briar Boleyn
5.0

Wow… that cliffhanger? Really???

The dynamic between Medra and Blake takes center stage in book 2, with Briar giving us more chapters from Blake’s perspective. The slow burn, which grew increasingly volatile and all-consuming moved from bullying to protective - though I would have liked this explored a little more. Their relationship, marked by both passion and peril, drives much of the narrative tension. The pacing is swift, with plenty of action, but was so well written that it didn’t feel forced or that plot holes were being missed or skipped.

There is more spice in book 2, however it is so tastefully written with an emphasis on how the characters are feeling in the moment, rather than the actions taking place.

While the plot occasionally follows familiar fantasy tropes (touch her and die vibes, mine, bully, mates etc) I found the writing engaging and full of twists that keep the story fresh.

The Bond that Burns offers the perfect mix of magic, romance, and danger, with twists and turns that keep you guessing and reading more as you try and work out just where this is all leading. The way book one has flowed into book two has kept me hooked and eagerly awaiting book 3 and hopefully answers!!
